The opportunity

Why this role matters

You will lead asylum matters with sound legal judgment and genuine care for clients who may be fleeing danger. Your work will help clients understand their options and prepare strong, accurate cases.

The practice

Cases you will handle

Your primary focus will be asylum cases, including consultations, case strategy, declarations, filings, and interview preparation. Depending on the firm’s needs, you may also handle adjustment of status, naturalization, change of status, and other immigration matters.

The work

The work and the opportunity

You will help people seeking protection in the United States, often at a vulnerable point in their lives. Every client brings a different background and set of experiences, so the work calls for careful listening, strong legal judgment, and a thoughtful approach to each case. You will have room to contribute your own ideas while working closely with two former USCIS asylum officers and learning from their experience reviewing and deciding asylum cases.

  • Develop case strategy and guide paralegals through case preparation.
  • Work directly with clients to understand their experiences and prepare clear, accurate declarations.
  • Draft legal arguments, assess supporting evidence, and review applications before filing.
  • Prepare clients for asylum interviews and help them understand what to expect.
  • Research complex legal questions and work with the team to address issues that arise.

What you can expect

Learn while doing work that matters

You will work with Ekaterina and Elena, two former USCIS officers who now advocate for clients. You will learn their approach through real cases while contributing your own ideas and judgment.

What you bring

Requirements

  • Admitted to practice law and in good standing in any U.S. jurisdiction.
  • Russian language skills are a plus, not required.
  • Prior asylum practice or USCIS experience is a plus. We are also open to a junior attorney who is eager to develop an asylum practice with guidance from our team.
  • Strong legal writing, sound judgment, and the ability to communicate with clients about sensitive experiences with care.
  • Available during the team's core hours, with a private, secure workspace for confidential client information.

How we work together

You may thrive here if

  • You approach clients with empathy while assessing the facts and legal issues objectively.
  • You consider each client’s broader circumstances and help them make informed decisions about their options.
  • You think independently, welcome feedback, and work well with the case team.
